I went back after a week and doctor reinjected left side(smaller side; top and bottom lip). Another week later and there was minimal change. Saw him again today(2 1/2 weeks since initial injection) and this time he injected the right side(bigger side; bottom only). Remains to be seen if this will work but I’m not very confident at this point. Why would he inject smaller side in an effort to fix but then inject bigger side when that didn’t work?? How should I handle this going forward?
Hi and thank you for your question! I have a background in Neuromuscular medicine and I have probably done up to 100,000 Botox injections and I do still rarely have patient with some minor asymmetry after Botox injection. As it comes with cosmetic injections like Botox, the skill of the injector is very important, but we are still dealing with human body and its unpredictability. So the initial asymmetry is not to be unexpected. However, once it occurs it requires great skill as muscles work in groups that balance each other and deep knowledge of the anatomy of the face and how muscles work is the key hear. I also recommend a more measured and conservative approach after Botox because during the first few days after Botox as it is kicking in and as muscles are readjusting to the new tone, some undesirable results are not uncommon. In your case, I recommend allowing 2 weeks or so after each injection and if the concerns are not resolved, do another follow up for possible further adjustments. The good news is that in worst case, this will all be temporary and the remaining issues are expected to resolve soon. I hope it helps and good luck!
