Why does Bellafill alone in the jawline not provide great results? I understand you need to use more Bellafill than you would compared to other fillers, but given that it’s permanent I don’t understand why needing to use more product is considered a negative for some providers? Isn’t Bellafill still a way better investment cost-wise? Also, many providers prefer to add Juvederm or Radiesse to produce a more aesthetically pleasing result. Why is that? Is the Bellafill not sufficient on its own?
Hi and thank you for your question! Bellafill is a great filler and generally speaking a good choice for the jawline. I usually use it on its own and do not add other fillers to it. The reason why some providers add other fillers to it might be related to the mode of action of Bellafill: As a stimulatory collagen filler, it gives an initial volume lift but it goes down as the collagen part of it is broken down. As time passes and within weeks and months, the stimulatory part kicks in to stimulates the body to make more collagen, that will be long-lasting and that’s when the final volume and look will emerge. Given this and the fact that it might take a few months to see the full results, some providers might opt to supplement it with other fillers to give more volume in the short term before the long-term effects of Bellafill emerge. Alternatively, educating patients on the expected results and timeline of the results to reach optimal level following Bellafill is very important and I always review it in detail with my patients. This way, I rarely need to add other fillers to Bellafill and use it alone. I hope it helps and good luck!
