Dry red flaky skin a week after microdermabrasion session. Is this normal?
A patient Staff asked 7 years ago After my third microdermabrasion session I have began getting very dry flaky skin peeling especially around the chin area, this includes redness, tight face blemishes and itchy skin. I did not have this problem after my first and second session as my skin always felt smooth after. It has been a week now and my skin is still feeling very sensitive. Is this normal? And how long usually will this affect go down? Are there any creams or remedies I can use to speed up the recovery?

Hi and thank you for your question! Skin dryness is usually related to skin care regimen and I wonder if there has been any changes to the skin care products you have been using, or perhaps during your microdermabrasion treatment your skin was exposed to new products that causes some irritations. Redness and itchy skin can occur following microdermabrasion as well but not that common unless you had a more robust and deeper treatment this time. Your skin should get better soon but please keep an eye for rare complications such as infection, etc. During this time, it would be best to keep your skin well protected with a gentle moisturizer and avoid irritating creams or harsh make up products that can worsen the issue. If the concerns persist, please do a follow up with your clinician. I hope it helps and good luck!
