What are the benefits and downsides of lip fillers?
A patient asked 7 years ago Thinking about getting my lips done with fillers. Not sure which filler is best and / or how long it will last. Is it worth it? I also have some wrinkling around my lips. Will fillers work to diminish fine lines? Please Help !

Hi and thank you for your question! While each patient is different and requires individual consultation, in general fillers are great treatments for adding volume to the lips to create fuller lips as well as to correct some levels of unevenness. The downside of fillers is the risks and complications which are rare but might happen with any filler injections. For lips, you should only get hyaluronic acid fillers and the common choices include Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane Lyft (Perlane), Volbella and Voluma (for longer lasting results). These fillers come with the added benefit of easier adjustment and revision with injection of hyaluronidase should the patient requires some adjustments. Regarding the lines around the lips, depending on their shape and location (e.g. smokers' line, etc) we can treat them with superficial fillers such as Belotero or Botox injection.
