Looking at various the fat dissolving injections on the market, and I am wondering why Kybella didn't include phosphatidycholine. Can anyone explain this?

Kybella vs. Phosphatidylcholine

Hi and thank you for your question! Kybella is the only FDA-approved medication for reducing excessive fat in the submental area and it works by dissolving and solublizing the fat in the injected area. The active ingredient of Kybella is deoxycholic acid which is naturally present in our bile duct secretion and is used by the body to break down the fat in the food we eat. Phosphatidylcholine is a type of fat (phospholipid) and while it has been shown to be able to reduce fat tissues at sites of injection, its mechanism of action is not well understood and hence it is not FDA-approved for this indication. With Kybella readily available in the US, I really cannot recommend using other agents that are not approved by FDA for reducing submental fat. I hope it helps and good luck!
